Privacy note

What we store

Your account (email, display name, and optionally your school), and the work you do in the app: papers you open or upload, highlights and notes, words you look up, worksheet answers, and your chat conversations with papers. We also keep a count of your AI usage to run the daily credit limit.

How AI features work

Definitions, chat, jargon explanations, and auto-highlights are powered by Anthropic's Claude models. To answer, we send the relevant paper text and your question to Anthropic's API. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models by default. We never sell your data or use it for advertising — there are no ads and no tracking cookies, only the cookie that keeps you signed in.

Services we rely on

Your data lives in Supabase (database and sign-in) and the app runs on Vercel. Paper searches query PubMed (NCBI) and Semantic Scholar; dictionary lookups send the word — nothing else — to Merriam-Webster. Each provider only receives what it needs to do its job.

For students

NotebookLI is built for high-school readers. Keep personal details out of your notes and worksheets — they're for science, not secrets. If you're under 13, please use NotebookLI only with a parent, guardian, or teacher.

Your data, your call

Want your account and everything in it deleted? Email jadonli2020@gmail.com from the address on your account and it will be removed. If this note changes in a meaningful way, the date above changes with it.
